The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by the US Congress in 1950 “to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense…”. NSF is vital because it supports basic research and people to create knowledge that transforms the future. NSF‘s I/UCRC (Industry/University Cooperative Research Centers Program) provides a unique possibility for co-creation between research and industry.
Center for Visual and Decision Informatics (CVDI)
Starting from 2015 Finland has participated (as the fifth country outside USA) in the Program in the field of Big Data in the CVDI-center that was established as a result of DIMECC D2I program. Tampere University of Technology is working as the Finnish Site fhttp://nsfcvdi.org/wordpress/or the center and all Finnish Universities may participate in the center through TUT. Tieto, Nokia and TUT as DIMECC shareholders have invested in the Center.
Security and Software Engineering Research Center (S2ERC)
The United States of America and Finland have also agreed on a significant cyber partnership based on DIMECC’s Cyber Trust program. The new USA-Finland research cooperation between the cyber trust research center and the National Science Foundation Industry University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) will be founded in connection to Oulu University. Bittium and University of Oulu as DIMECC shareholders have invested in the Center.
DIMECC is under negotiations to add more themes for this mode of international collaboration.
