AI Powering Product Development – DIMECC’s 17th Annual Seminar in Collaboration with Aalto Design Factory

The event AI Powering Product Development – DIMECC’s 17th Annual Seminar in Collaboration with Aalto Design Factory will take place on November 12th at Aalto Design Factory in Espoo. We will start with lunch at 11:00 and continue with the seminar, followed by the new Product Development Path Makers award by Aalto Design Factory, ceremony and cocktails until 19:00.

The seminar will feature AI keynotes, foresight insights, and industrial cases on AI powering product development. We will explore AI from various perspectives, including better business planning and resilience, improved process efficiency and quality, and enhanced customer process performance.

There will be facilitated workshops with group working sessions on selected AI themes based on participants’ preferences. Additionally, there will be opportunities to attend Aalto Design Factory exhibition tours.

The new Product Development Path Makers 2024 award will be given out at a ceremony after the working sessions, prior to the networking cocktails. More information can be found from https://designfactory.aalto.fi/award.

Esko will speak on how AI is transforming the product development process, from design to testing and deployment. Key topics include AI’s impact on concept development, generative design, predictive testing, and continuous product improvement. He will also discuss how the widespread adoption of AI models necessitates scalable and decentralized computing platforms, including GPU-based computing, the new generation of chips, and optimizing AI models for different platforms.

Tero will speak about AI use cases in product development. Artificial intelligence (AI) has been utilized in the manufacturing industry for over two decades. Now, with the advent of generative AI, new capabilities have emerged, reigniting interest in industrial R&D. His presentation will explore the challenges the engineering sector faces with AI implementation, where generative AI excels, and how it can be leveraged to maximize efficiency.

With over a decade of experience in a technology-driven international business environment, Teemu brings a customer-oriented approach to every aspect of his work. Teemu’s core expertise lies in production automation, particularly in the welding industry and wind energy sectors. His diverse background encompasses roles in sales, sales support, project management, and engineering, enabling him to effectively bridge the gap between customer requirements and comprehensive technology solutions that deliver added value.

At DIMECC, Clémentine leads the MAKE in Finland Ecosystem that supports the Finnish manufacturing industry value chain’s stakeholders to succeed in their twin transition and sustain together Finland as the world leading smart and sustainable manufacturing center. She also manages the REBOOT Skills project that aims at providing reskilling and upskilling opportunities for the manufacturing industry.

As an Innovation Specialist at Konecranes, Totti will delve into the potential of GenAI to surpass human capabilities in ideation. He’ll examine the quality of GPT-4’s ideas across various brainstorming topics, comparing them with those generated by industry professionals. Additionally, Totti will explore how AI can fuel human creativity, serving as a stimulus in co-innovation settings with company teams.

Juha will discuss how Danfoss Drives has experimented with AI in product development, including Co-pilot, system documentation, and test result interpretation. He will also highlight ways to integrate intelligence into products and services.

Pekka has a broad experience in product and business strategy development work in industry, industry associations, business networks and sustainable business consultancy. As an independent strategy consultant, entrepreneur and a Professor of Practice at Aalto University Design Factory, Pekka wishes that all participants get inspired, energized and networked at this event organized in collaboration with DIMECC.

Having led co-creation and inter-organizational collaboration since 2008, Harri brings deep expertise in European innovation systems and technology foresight. He is a seasoned speaker, evaluator, and writer on research & innovation activities, strategies, and policies. He welcomes you as one of the key organizers of this event.

Arrival and parking Instructions for Design Factory

Design Factory is located in the Viima building, Puumiehenkuja 5A 02150 Espoo.

Arrival with Metro or Bus
● Metro: Exit the metro from the Abloc side to the shopping center
● Bus: Exit at the Aalto Yliopisto -stop
● Navigate yourself to the address Puumiehenkuja 5A, the walk takes approximately max.
10 minutes
● 8:00-15:30 the doors are open, and during the evening events, you can contact the
organizer, if closed. If you have agreed on a meeting with someone, wait for them in the
lobby or contact them.

Parking options and locations
● Design Factory hasn’t offered parking permits any more for visitors since January 2024
due to the changes in the parking policies in Otaniemi
● We advise you to park in outdoor parking spaces near Design Factory if available (on its
left side) or the Otaparkki building, Sähkömiehentie 3, close to Viima.
○ Hourly charges apply to both outdoor parking spaces and Otaparkki
○ You can check out the parking fees by the service providers, EasyPark or
Parkman
