The Manufacturing Performance Days (MPD) event, which focuses on transforming the manufacturing industry, highlights the opportunities brought by artificial intelligence. The event provides the latest insights into services that significantly facilitate the adoption of AI in research, development, and innovation.
In April, the LUMI AI Factory service network will be launched for the manufacturing industry, providing the Manufacturing Performance Days event with an opportunity to introduce companies to entirely new possibilities.
Pan-European LUMI supercomputer, operated by CSC in Kajaani, Finland, has been used by companies for two years. Many Finnish industrial companies, such as Wärtsilä Finland and Raute, have already seized the opportunity to use LUMI’s vast computing capacity to improve production efficiency and quality assurance, among other things, through advanced data analytics.

However, not all companies have the necessary expertise. Despite the enthusiasm, this has slowed down the exploitation of the potential of LUMI supercomputer.
“LUMI AI Factory ecosystem will change the situation significantly,” says Kimmo Koski, Managing Director of CSC.
“With the funding decision secured in December, one of the first AI factories in Europe will be built in Finland. This significant investment will strengthen AI development work and competitiveness in European and Finnish companies.”
Plans to support companies using the LUMI supercomputer’s computing capacity include providing tailored training in AI and high-performance computing, assistance in selecting AI methods, and a secure environment for data.
“In June, we will be much wiser about the services LUMI AI Factory offers. However, we can say that companies will be supported in building AI, for example, through computing resources, shared data repositories and expert support,” Koski says.
For those excited about the LUMI AI Factory news, the possibilities offered by the LUMI supercomputer can be explored already. The free-of-charge Try & Buy project includes access for two users, CPU, GPU, and storage resources for testing, and CSC’s expert support for deployment.
In addition to CSC experts, in MPD, there is a possibility to chat with AIKA ecosystem experts. AIKA ecosystem experts support companies in the digitalisation of their business and the development of new innovative solutions.

A promising future is reflected in demand
Now held for the ninth time, the MPD event will gather in June 2025 top executives from the manufacturing industry, technology decision-makers, experts, and technology and service providers from around the world in Tampere.
“We have secured a significant number of partners for the event. Partnership spots are running out earlier than usual this year. The fourth quarter was promising for the technology industry, and companies clearly believe that investments will start during the spring. Perhaps many digital service companies have decided to finalize these deals directly with decision-makers at the MPD event,” says Harri Kulmala, Operative Co-chair of MPD and CEO of DIMECC Ltd.
The strategic partners of the event are Beckhoff, Dassault Systèmes, Fastems, Reaktor, Siemens, Technology Industries of Finland, Tampere University, VTT, DIMECC, CSC, AIKA Ecosystem, EIT Manufacturing, Elisa IndustrIQ, Escaltech, Netum, Teamviewer, Top Data Science, Advian, Brightly Works, Comatec, Fujitsu, IFM, Innofactor, Treon, Unikie,Vincit, Data Design, Lenz, Missing Link, PipeCloud, Resoniks, Select AM and Spogen.ai. The event is supported by the City of Tampere, the Tampere Chamber of Commerce, the Finnish-German Chamber of Commerce, and European manufacturing industry networks ManuFuture, Cecimo, EFFRA and A.Spire.
Manufacturing Performance Days ‘Manufacturing in the Age of AI’ will be held at Tampere Hall on June 4–5, 2025. For more information: www.mpdays.com.
