Nokia has received the 2026 DIMECC Prize in recognition of its long-term contribution to DIMECC’s innovation ecosystems and collaborative research, development and innovation projects.
Nokia’s long-term commitment to collaborative development is reflected in initiatives including the Digital Twins in Action project, part of Nokia’s Industrial Metaverse LEAD program under Business Finland’s Veturi initiative. The project is developing digital twin solutions by combining artificial intelligence, 4G/5G connectivity, 360° imaging and standardized data exchange. Nokia is also a key contributor to the MAKE in Finland and Metaverse Finland ecosystems.
“Nokia is a good example of a company that makes long-term use of DIMECC’s ecosystems and joint R&D and innovation projects while actively contributing its own expertise to co-creation with other companies and research organizations,” says Dr. Seppo Tikkanen, Head of PMO at DIMECC Oy.
“The most important innovations rarely emerge in isolation. They come from combining complementary expertise, testing ideas in real-world environments and building the shared foundations needed to scale them. DIMECC has created a strong environment for this kind of collaboration, and we are proud to contribute to an ecosystem that strengthens Finland’s ability to turn research into globally relevant innovation. On behalf of Nokia, I thank DIMECC and all our partners,” says Ville-Veikko Mattila, Nokia’s Head of Multimedia Technologies, who accepted the award on behalf of the company.
The prize was presented on November 3 at DIMECC and KONE’s Elevating the Future with AI Annual Seminar, at Kulttuurikasarmi in Helsinki.
The DIMECC Prize is an annual award recognizing collaboration between companies and research organizations. It has been awarded since 2009. The perpetual trophy is a brass, explosion-proof crane load wheel donated by Konecranes.
In 2025, the DIMECC Prize was awarded to Wärtsilä. Other recipients in the 2020s include Prima Power, Konecranes, Brighthouse Intelligence and Orion Pharma.
